Located at One NRG Park in southwest Houston, NRG Stadium is the city’s largest concert venue and one of the biggest event spaces in Texas. The retractable-roof stadium is best known as the home of the Houston Texans and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, but it also hosts stadium-sized tours from major pop, rock, country, Latin, hip-hop, and global artists.
For concerts, NRG Stadium can feel very different depending on the production. Some shows use a traditional end-stage setup with floor seats, while others build larger runways, center stages, or general admission floor sections. The stadium can hold roughly 72,000 to 80,000 fans depending on the layout, so planning your parking, entry gate, and exit strategy ahead of time makes a major difference.
Parking & Directions
NRG Stadium is part of the larger NRG Park complex, located near the Texas Medical Center and south of Downtown Houston. The stadium is accessible from Loop 610, Kirby Drive, Main Street, Fannin Street, and South Main. For many stadium events, traffic builds heavily around Kirby, Fannin, Westridge, and McNee, so arriving early is strongly recommended.
Driving & Parking
NRG Park uses color-coded parking lots, including Orange, Red, Maroon, Blue, Yellow, Green, Purple, Teal, and Tan. For NRG Stadium events, official directions often route guests toward Gate 9 at the corner of Kirby Drive and Westridge Street, though gate access can change depending on the event.
The best move for major concerts is to buy parking in advance when it is offered. Day-of parking may be available, but it is usually more expensive and can sell out for high-demand shows. Parking prices vary by event, and NRG Park generally does not allow in-and-out access once you park. Electronic or card payment is typically required at parking gates, so do not rely on cash.
If you are parking on-site, check your ticket or event email for the recommended gate and lot. NRG Park is large, and entering through the wrong side of the complex can add a long walk before the show.
Public Transportation & Rideshare
- METRORail: The Red Line is one of the easiest ways to reach NRG Stadium without dealing with parking. Exit at the Stadium Park/Astrodome station near NRG Park, then follow signs toward the stadium entrance. This is especially convenient if you are coming from Downtown, Midtown, the Museum District, or the Texas Medical Center.
- Fannin South Park & Ride: For many special events, including stadium concerts, fans can park at Fannin South and ride the METRORail one stop to NRG Park. This is often less stressful than driving directly into the stadium lots.
- Rideshare (Uber/Lyft): Rideshare locations can vary by event, but for major concerts NRG Park may designate pickup and drop-off near Gate 16B and the Yellow Lot. Always check the official event page or your event email before heading out.
- After the Show: Expect heavy congestion around Kirby, Fannin, and the Yellow Lot after the encore. If you are using rideshare, walking a short distance away from the busiest exits can make pickup easier.
NRG Stadium Seating Chart
NRG Stadium seating changes from show to show, but most concerts use a combination of floor seating, lower bowl, club level, and upper bowl sections. Always check the seating chart for your specific event before buying tickets, because stage placement can change which sections have the best view.
- Floor Seats: Best for fans who want to be closest to the stage. Depending on the artist, the floor may be reserved seating, general admission, or a mix of both.
- 100 Level: These lower bowl sections usually offer the best balance of proximity, elevation, and sightlines. Side-stage sections can be excellent if the stage has large video screens.
- 300 Level / Club Level: A more comfortable option for fans who want elevated views and easier access to premium concourses, depending on the event setup.
- 500 Level / Upper Bowl: The most budget-friendly option for stadium concerts. Views are farther away, but the video screens help a lot for large-scale productions.
- Obstructed or Side View Seats: Be careful with sections located directly beside or behind the stage. These can be cheaper, but the view may be limited depending on the production.

Venue Bag Policy & Security
NRG Stadium bag rules can vary by event, so always check the official event page before leaving home. For NFL games and many major stadium events, a clear bag policy may be in effect.
- Clear Bag Policy: When the clear bag policy is active, guests may bring one clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC bag no larger than 12” × 6” × 12”, or a one-gallon clear plastic freezer bag.
- Small Clutches: A small clutch purse no larger than 4.5” × 6.5” is typically allowed and subject to search.
- Large Bags: Backpacks and large bags that exceed 11” × 17” are not allowed.
- Medical & Diaper Bags: Necessary medical and diaper bags may be allowed after proper inspection, but diaper bags may not be permitted when a strict clear bag policy is in effect.
- No Bag Storage: NRG Stadium does not provide bag check or storage for most events, so prohibited bags must be returned to your vehicle or discarded before entry.
- Prohibited Items: Weapons, outside food and beverages, coolers, bottles, cans, fireworks, laser pointers, drones, professional cameras, audio/video recording devices, air horns, and similar items are not allowed.
Mobile Tickets, Box Office & Entry Tips
NRG Stadium events are heavily mobile-ticket focused. Your phone is usually your ticket, so download your tickets before arriving and add them to your mobile wallet if possible. Stadium cell service can get slow when tens of thousands of fans arrive at the same time.
The main NRG Park Box Office is located inside Bud Light Plaza on the south side of NRG Stadium. Box office hours vary depending on the event, and concert tickets are not usually sold at the stadium box office on the first day they go on sale. If you need ticket help, check the event page before driving to the venue.
NRG Park facilities generally have a no re-entry policy. Once you scan in and leave, you should not expect to be allowed back inside unless your specific event says otherwise.
Best Places to Eat & Drink Nearby
NRG Stadium has concessions inside, but if you want a real meal before the show, the area around South Loop, Main Street, and the Medical Center has several reliable options. For big concerts, restaurants near the stadium fill up quickly, so go early or make a reservation when possible.
- Pappasito’s Cantina: One of the easiest pre-show choices near NRG Stadium. It is a classic Houston Tex-Mex stop for fajitas, queso, margaritas, and a full sit-down meal before heading into the stadium.
- Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen: A strong option for Gulf Coast and Louisiana-style seafood, including gumbo, fried seafood, crawfish, and big plates that work well before a long concert night.
- Pappas Bar-B-Q: A convenient pick if you want brisket, ribs, sausage, loaded baked potatoes, or something quick and hearty before the show.
- Molina’s Cantina: A local Tex-Mex favorite a short drive from NRG Park. It is a good option if you want to eat away from the heaviest stadium traffic before heading in.
- Morningside Thai: A useful choice if you want something beyond standard stadium-area food. It is close enough to NRG Park for a pre-show dinner but usually feels less hectic than the restaurants directly on the Loop.
